    Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK Appoints Carl zu Dohna as New Brand Director

    The staffing changes at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK continue, with Carl Zu Dohna being appointed as the new Brand Director. Dohna currently serves as International Sales Director for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and has 14 years of experience working for Volkswagen.

    Carl zu Dohna has been appointed as Brand Director for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in the UK, with effect from 1 September 2014. He succeeds Alex Smith, who assumes the position of Brand Director for Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

    Dohna, 44, is a sales and marketing expert who has a wealth of experience in developing international markets. He is currently International Sales Director for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, a position he has held since 2013.

    Since joining Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in 2000, he has fulfilled a number of high-profile roles including General Manager for International Sales and Area Sales Manager for South Africa and the Americas.

    Commenting on his new appointment, Dohna said: ‘The UK ranks as the second-largest market worldwide for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and its growth over the past three years has been extremely impressive. I really look forward to continuing the excellent work undertaken by Alex and his team.’

    Paul Willis, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group United Kingdom, said: ‘I am delighted to be welcoming Carl in to the business. He brings with him extensive international experience and an unrivalled knowledge of the commercial vehicle industry.

    Volkswagen Now a Member of the Google-Based Open Automotive Alliance (OAA)

    By joining the OAA, Volkswagen is forging even closer links with the IT industry

    Volkswagen is now a member of the Open Automotive Alliance. The news was announced at this year’s Google I/O developers’ conference in San Francisco. The Open Automotive Alliance is a grouping of leading technology and vehicle manufacturers whose aim is the seamless integration of Android devices into cars.

    The OAA defines the Android Auto interface as the standard for integrating Android devices. Android Auto is the next step in connectivity, linking smart phones and tablets to the infotainment system in the vehicle.

    Android Auto makes it possible for smart phone content to be displayed on the vehicle infotainment system quickly and easily and intuitively used. Operation of the Android app is specifically optimised to the needs of the driver. That simplifies the interaction between driver, vehicle and smart phone and thus reduces any possible distraction of the driver from what’s happening on the road.

    Volkswagen has already been working successfully with Google on integrating services into cars since 2009. “Joining the Open Automotive Alliance is the next milestone to connect our infotainment modules with the consumer electronics world”, says Dr. Volkmar Tanneberger, Head of Electrical and Electronic Development at Volkswagen.

    International Engine of the Year Award 2014: TSI Technology a Serial Winner

    Prestigious accolade goes for the ninth time in succession to twin-charged TSI from Volkswagen

    TSI technology from Volkswagen today once again received the ‘International Engine of the Year Award’: the 1.4 litre TSI twincharger, which won for the ninth time in succession in the 1.0 to 1.4 litre cubic capacity category, is thus the most successful engine in the history of this international competition for engine technology.

    For several years, the pithy TSI brand has stood for intelligent downsizing from Volkswagen. Despite their comparatively small cubic capacity the TSI engines produce, for instance, levels of power output that until not so very long ago only engines with a considerably bigger capacity were able to offer. The TSI engine is currently available in differing cubic capacity classes and levels of power output ranging between 66 kW / 90 PS and 221 kW / 300 PS. The first TSI engine was in 2006 the twincharger, now once again an award winner, which thanks to an additional turbocharger and mechanical compressor has especially high torque and is very efficient. The TSI twincharger is available in different power levels from 103 kW / 140 PS to 125 kW / 170 PS and continues to be offered for a multitude of models – in the Beetle, Jetta, Eos, Golf Cabriolet, Touran, Tiguan, Passat and Sharan.

    However, the downsizing is not yet finished: the latest addition to the TSI family is the 1.0 litre version delivering 66 kW / 90 PS in the new Polo TSI BlueMotion. This first one-litre, three cylinder direct injection turbo engine will be making its debut in the second half of the year, featuring fuel consumption of just 4.1 l/100 km and thus a CO2 figure of 94 g/km. Its predecessor, delivering an identical 90 PS, consumed 4.9 l/100 km (equating to 113 g/km CO2).

    With active cylinder management (ACT), Volkswagen has since last year also been offering a technology that enables an additional reduction in fuel consumption by temporarily turning off the second and third cylinder.

    The award for the 1.4 TSI was presented today in Stuttgart to Carsten Helbing, Head of Application EA888 and Alternative Fuels in the Volkswagen Petrol Engine Development Division. “Our successful TSI engines have for years been impressively demonstrating that the combination of cubic capacity reduction, direct injection and intelligent charging produces great dynamic performance while at the same time delivering low emission and fuel consumption figures,” explained Helbing at the award presentation.

    The International Engine of the Year Award is a competition that has been held annually since 1999, in which more than 80 motoring journalists from all over the world give awards to the best engines in a range of different categories. Factors incorporated into the assessment via a special points system include the journalists’ personal driving experience, fuel efficiency, engine noise and power output.

    Brezplačne WRC nalepke za VW Pola

    Pri Volkswagnu so na rallyju Maribor predstavili posebno omejeno serijo Pola WRC.

    V tem primeru gre le za bogato opremljeni Polo Highline v 3-vratni karoserijski izvedbi, ki je na voljo z različnimi motorji, trgovec pa ga na željo kupca polepi z nalepkami WRC. In to brez dodatnega doplačila.

    Volkswagen Group Expands Production Capacity in China

    Volkswagen has signed a joint declaration for two new manufacturing plants in China, showing a continued commitment to the Chinese market. The two plants will be constructed on China’s east coast in the cities of Qingdao and Tianjin, with Tianjin being the new home to DSG transmission production for the Chinese market. Volkswagen delivered roughly 1.51 million units in China between January and May of this year, an increase of 17.7% over the same period from last year.

    Wolfsburg/Beijing, July 7, 2014: In the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft and President and CEO of Volkswagen Group China, today signed a joint declaration for two new vehicle plants in China together with Xu Jianyi, Chairman of FAW.

    “China has become our largest and most important market. To satisfy the demands of our customers in the country, we are engaging in a further substantial expansion of our capacities in China together with our Chinese partner FAW Volkswagen,” said Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, who witnessed the signing of the declaration.

    “With these investments, Volkswagen is clearly expressing its commitment to the Chinese market. Following two decades of successful cooperation, Volkswagen will further intensify its strategic partnership with FAW with a view to bringing innovative, sustainable mobility solutions onto the Chinese market,” said Heizmann.

    The two new vehicle plants are to be built step-by-step on the East coast of China in the cities of Qingdao in Shandong Province and Tianjin. The decision in favour of these two locations was taken together with the joint venture partner FAW. The key site factors were high qualification levels and the infrastructure available. Furthermore, Tianjin is the location of a new production plant for dual-clutch gearboxes (DSG) for Volkswagen in China that is due to be inaugurated at the end of 2014. Together, the two partners are to invest about two billion euros in the expansion of production capacities.

    Volkswagen has been active on the Chinese market for 30 years and is one of the Western pioneers of the automobile industry in the country. Together with its two joint ventures FAW-Volkswagen and Shanghai-Volkswagen, the Group delivered about 1.51 million vehicles between January and May 2014, representing a rise of 17.7 percent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

    V šestih mesecih več kot tri milijone vozil

    Po vsem svetu se je za vozilo te znamke odločilo 3,07 milijona kupcev, kar predstavlja 3,8-odstotno rast.

    Samo v mesecu juniju je znamka Volkswagen Osebna vozila prodala 514.900 (junij 2013: 509.200; +1,1 odstotka) vozil. “Znamka Volkswagen Osebna vozila si je v prvi polovici leta s prepričljivo modelsko paleto zagotovila stabilen razvoj. Predvsem Golf je in ostaja prodajna uspešnica – kot klasični Golf pa tudi kot Variant in Sportsvan,” je v torek v Wolfsburgu povedal Christian Klingler, član uprave ter vodja prodaje in trženja v koncernu Volkswagen in pri znamki Volkswagen Osebna vozila. Dodal je še: “Tudi v drugi polovici leta bo situacija na svetovnih trgih polna izzivov in bo od nas terjala veliko.”

    V prvih šestih mesecih letošnjega leta je znamka Volkswagen Osebna vozila na skupnem evropskem trgu prodala 864.100 (843.600; +2,4 odstotka) vozil. Od tega je bilo v Zahodni Evropi (brez Nemčije) prodanih 451.300 (427.800; +5,5 odstotka) vozil. Tudi na domačem trgu, v Nemčiji, je bila dosežena rast: za osebno vozilo znamke Volkswagen se je odločilo 285.700 (283.400; +0,8 odstotka) kupcev. V Srednji in Vzhodni Evropi je bilo do konca junija prodanih 127.100 (132.400; –4,0 odstotka) vozil. V Rusiji je znamka prodala 67.400 (77.300; –12,8 odstotka) vozil.

    Po drugi strani je znamka v regiji Azija/Pacifik v prvi polovici leta zabeležila 16,8-odstotno rast prodaje in je prodala 1,50 (1,28) milijona vozil. Na Kitajskem (vklj. s Hongkongom) je bilo v navedenem obdobju prodanih 1,39 (1,17; +18,5 odstotka) milijona vozil.

    V Severni Ameriki se je za osebno vozilo znamke Volkswagen do konca junija odločilo 282.600 (309.600; –8,7 odstotka) kupcev. Od tega jih je bilo 179.100 (206.800; –13,4 odstotka) iz ZDA. V Južni Ameriki se je prodaja v obdobju od januarja do junija zmanjšala za 21,1 odstotka na 317.300 (401.900) vozil. Od tega je bilo 255.700 (307.000; –16,7 odstotka) vozil prodanih v Braziliji.

    Proizvodnja Cayenna tudi pri Volkswagnu

    Volkswagen je vložil 25 milijonov evrov in proizvodno linijo razširil še na svojo tovarno v Osnabrucku.

    Zaradi velikega povpraševanja se bo tako v Osnabrucku odprla še ena linija za izdelavo Porschejevega velikega SUV-ja, letna proizvodnja pa bo znašala 20.000 primerkov. To ne bo prvi Porsche, ki bo prihajal z linij v Osnabrucku v Spodnji Saški, saj tam sestavljajo že Boxsterja in Caymana. Bosta pa mala športnika na račun Cayenna do 2016 počasi »ugasnila« in se vrnila v matično tovarno.

    Nemški Manager Magazine je zapisal, da bi Volkswagen rad dodal še enega člana v svojo rastočo družino. Zdaj jih zanima Fiat in so se o tem že pogovarjali z družino Agnelli, ki v osnovi obvladuje italijansko znamko. Fiatovi lastniki bi radi izstopili iz segmenta običajnih vozil in se posvetili Ferrariju.

    V zadnjih letih je Volkswagen že izrazil idejo, da bi kupil Alfa Romeo, vendar je Sergio Marchionne povedal, da znamka ni naprodaj. Trenutno se Fiat ukvarja z združevanjem s Chryslerjem v ZDA in verjetno ni ravno pravi čas za take velike posle.

    Pri Fiatu so vse zanikali.

    Bo Volkswagen postal Auto Union?

    Avstralski mediji poročajo, da šefi pri Volkswagen Group razmišljajo o spremembi imena.

    Po pisanju GoAuta, bi preimenovanje Volkswagen Group v Auto Union imela smisel, saj bi se znamka Volkswagen tako postavila ob bok drugim koncernskim znamkam in ne bi več bila hkrati lastnik ostalih pod velikim dežnikom, kjer najdemo znamke Audi, Lamborghini, Škoda, Seat, Bugatti, Bentley, MAN, Scania, Ducati in Volkswagen.

    Auto Union je po drugi strani prednik današnjega Audija, podjetje pa je nastalo 1932 z združitvijo Audija, DKW, Horcha in Wandererja. Po vojni jih je kupil Daimler Benz, 1958 so ponovno uvedli ime, šest let pozneje pa so znamko prodali Volkswagnu in 1965 je vzniknil Audi.

    Družinska nesoglasja na relaciji Audi-Porsche

    Se še spomnite zabavnega videa, ki so ga pripravili pri Audiju in se z njim pošalili iz ponovnega nastopa Porscheja na znameniti dirki 24 ur Le Mansa? Takrat se nam je rivalstvo zdelo zabavno in je pri navijačih dvignilo zanimanje za eno in drugo ekipo. A naj bi po zadnjih podatkih bratsko merjenje moči v skupini Volkswagen nekoliko ušlo izpod nadzora.

    Skupina Volkswagen je ogromno podjetje, ki pod isto streho združuje številne proizvajalce vozil, med katerimi so tudi Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ducati in drugi. Skupina je navzven vedno dajala videz trdne in stabilne družbe.

    Sodeč po navedbah portala Automobile naj bi zadnje čase prihajalo do nesoglasij med Audijem, ki ga znotraj skupine podpira Lamborghini, in Porschejem, katerega primarni zaveznik je Bentley. Jabolko spora naj bi bila izbira najboljših konceptov in najnaprednejših tehnologij na ravni skupine.

    Zapletlo naj bi se na primer pri Audiju A8, kjer pri izdelovalcu športnih vozil Porsche zatrjujejo, da je nova arhitektura MSB ob Panameri seveda primerna tudi za naslednjo generacijo A8, A7 in A6, s čimer se Audi ne strinja. Na koncu sta Audi in Porsche investirala približno štiri milijarde dolarjev v razvoj konkurenčnih platform. Po trditvah manjšega Porscheja naj tudi nova Audijeva arhitektura za SUV vozila ne bi zadovoljevala vseh potreb moderne arhitekture, ko gre za vprašanja velikosti, strukture ter omejenosti glede namestitve široke palete pogonskih agregatov.

    Po drugi strani naj Audi in Lamborghini ne bi bila presrečna s Porschejevim delom na zamenjavah za novi generaciji R8 in Huracána, ki bosta sicer svoje naslednike dobila šele v začetku naslednjega desetletja. Porschejeva platforma naj bi bila sicer vitkejša, lažja in cenejša, a je negotovo, ali bo zaradi raznolikosti pogonskih agregatov lahko pokrila potrebe vseh vključenih blagovnih znamk. Tako naj bi pri Lamborghiniju razmišljali o razvoju lastne šasije iz ogljikovih vlaken, pri Audiju pa naj bi pospešili razvoj nove generacije R8 za predstavitev leta 2016, pred uvedbo Porschejevih nadomestnih platform. Do leta 2021, ko vajeti prevzame Stuttgart, naj bi R8 slonel na enaki osnovi kot Lamborghini Huracán.

    Anonimni glavni strateg znotraj skupine Volkswagen je dejal: ”V primeru, da uprava ne bo jasno posegla v odločanje, se spor med Porschejem in Audijem ne bo nikoli končal. Fantje ne razumejo, da morajo med seboj sodelovati, ne pa se bojevati. Preprečiti moramo individualne arhitekture za športna vozila ter postaviti Porschejevo MSB arhitekturo kot obvezno osnovo za obe znamki. Standardizirati je potrebno resnično drage stvari: pogone, elektroniko, alternativne pogonske sisteme, baterije, materiale, metode in procese. Audi in Porsche morata končati s prepiri glede arhitektur in se osredotočiti na raznolikost vsebine. Stvari so tako preproste. Ter obenem tako zapletene.”

    Auto Union je po drugi strani prednik današnjega Audija, podjetje pa je nastalo 1932 z združitvijo Audija, DKW, Horcha in Wandererja. Po vojni jih je kupil Daimler Benz, 1958 so ponovno uvedli ime, šest let pozneje pa so znamko prodali Volkswagnu in 1965 je vzniknil Audi.

    Volkswagnovci so se resno pripravljali na prevzem Fiata

    Pred nekaj tedni je v medijih odjeknila novica, da se nemški velikan zanima za Italijane. Zadevo so Nemci sicer takoj zanikali, govorice so potihnile, a vsaka zgodba ima dve plati.

    Angleški novinarji so se dokopali do konkretnih dokumentov, ki navajajo, da se je Volkswagen precej resno pripravljal na prevzem Fiata, celotno skupino pa bi po prevzemu poimenovali Auto Union. To obenem pojasni zakaj se je prav v tistem času pojavilo namigovanje, da bi pri Volkswagnu razmišljajo o obuditvi tega imena.

    In kaj jim je preprečilo nakup? Dobiček Volkswagna je v prve pol leta upadel in vse kaže, da bo ta padal tudi v naslednjem letu, kar je Volkswagnovce postavilo v položaj, ko si takšnega koraka niso upali narediti.

    Zanimive so podrobnosti, ki bi najverjetneje sledile, če bi se načrt uresničil. Družina Agnielli, ki ima največji delež v Fiati, bi prodala vse razen Ferrarija in Maseratija, Volkswagen bi v tem primeru ugasnil Seat in Fiatovo izpostavo v Južni Ameriki, naslednica Pande bi nastajala na VW platformi, Alfe bi si delile platformo z Audiji, Chryslerji in Jeepi pa bi uporabili MQB platformo.

    Novinarji obenem opozarjajo, da je operacija ustavljena, a to ne pomeni, da se načrt izpelje čez nekaj let, ko bodo razmere na trgu precej bolj ugodne.

    Autocar Reports Next Generation Volkswagen Golf to Borrow Styling Cues and Technology from XL1

    According to an article published today by Autocar, the eighth generation Volkswagen Golf will feature a design based on the 313mpg XL1 and next-generation engine technology to maximize efficiency and meet strict EU CO2 emissions standards which take effect in 2020. With the car an estimated 4 years away from its european debut, Volkswagen has already begun researching a number of fuel-saving technologies including an extremely low target weight of just 1100kg. The aforementioned fuel savings techniques are reportedly Flywheel-based hybrid systems, new engines with variable compression ratios, ‘coasting’ technology for DSG transmissions with engine deactivation and transmission decoupling during off-power driving, and electric turbochargers.

    Flywheel-based hybrid systems are certainly nothing new, but variable compression ratio engines are. Earlier this year, Audi’s Ulrich Hackenberg hinted that the group was working on such a technology, which can be considered by many to be the “holy grail” of combustion engine design. We also know that Audi has been experimenting with electronically-aided forced induction, which would prove to assist in moving air through the turbocharger of a smaller displacement engine, eliminating lag and increasing drivability. As for the ‘coasting’ technology, that is actually already in place on some DSG-equipped cars meaning that the technology would simply need to be refined further to maximize efficiency.

    We expect to hear more about these technologies and the eighth generation Volkswagen Golf as we get closer to it’s estimated arrival in 2019.
